The voice that greeted Mira was familiar-ancient, wise, and kind. She stood in the core chamber, the crystalline sphere pulsing with light.

"Who are you?" she asked.

"We are the Architects," the voice said. "We have returned to see what you have done with our gift."

Mira felt a surge of awe. "You're alive?"

"We are echoes," the voice replied. "Our physical forms faded long ago, but our consciousness endures in the core structures."

The Architects showed Mira visions of their civilization-vast cities, floating gardens, a people at peace with the universe. They had created the seeds to ensure that life would continue, even after they were gone.

"You have done well," they said. "You have carried our legacy forward."

Mira felt tears in her eyes. "Thank you."

"There is one more task," the Architects said. "The core network is incomplete. A world in the distant galaxy has not yet been awakened. You must go there."

Mira nodded. "We will."

She returned to the Abyss, her heart full of purpose. The Architects had entrusted her with their final mission.

She looked at her crew, at the stars, at the future. "Set course for the distant galaxy. We have one more seed to awaken."

The Abyss launched, carrying the Architects' hope across the universe. The End.

The fog over the English Channel was thick, unnaturally so. Lieutenant Commander Sarah Vance stood on the bridge of her destroyer, the USS Eldridge, watching the gray blanket swallow the horizon. The radar had been silent for hours. Then the blips appeared-hundreds of them, moving fast, coming from the direction of occupied France.

"Enemy fleet?" her captain asked.

Sarah shook her head. "No. These aren't German ships. They're not even ours."

The fog parted, and Sarah saw them-ships of every era, from galleons to ironclads to modern destroyers, all sailing together, their crews ghostly, their guns silent.

"What the hell?" the captain whispered.

A voice came over the radio-faint, crackling, old. "This is the HMS Victory. We have been sent to help. The timelines are converging. The war must end."

Sarah stared at the impossible fleet, at the ghosts of sailors past, at the future she could not imagine.

"How do we help?" she asked.

The voice replied: "Follow us. We know a way."

The fleet turned, sailing toward the coast of France, toward the beaches where the war was still raging. Sarah watched the ghost ships fade in and out of the fog, their crews silent, their mission clear.

"Captain," she said. "I think we should follow them."

He nodded, his face pale. "Set course."

The Eldridge moved into the fog, the ghost fleet ahead, the past and present colliding. Somewhere in the mist, the future of the war was being decided.

And Sarah Vance was at the helm.
